Caring for Your Hair and Finding Solutions to Hair Loss
Many people at some point in their lives either experience some degree of hair loss or know someone losing their hair.
In men the primary cause of hair loss is a hormone called DHT (dihydrotesterone). This hormone causes hair follicles to shrink, which in turn makes hair thinner, eventually falling out completely. When a hair follicle has closed, it cannot be reopened.
Genetics play a large role in the sensitivity to this hormone and resulting hair loss. Genetics come from both mother and father, can skip generations and is completely random.
There are available solutions depending on the extent of hair loss. These solutions range from the new Bosley LaserComb® to the only permanent hair restoration solution, hair transplantation.
To better understand the causes of hair loss and available solutions, schedule a free consultation with a Bosley Senior Counselor. After meeting with a Senior Counselor you’ll also have the opportunity to discuss options available to you with a Bosley physician.
Even with new technology and available solutions, it’s still a good idea to take basic care of your hair to keep it healthy. Here are a few basic steps you can take:
- Wash your hair daily. It is possible for hair follicles to become clogged with oils. When hair follicles are clogged the growth of hair will slow. Bosley Volumizing Shampoo will not only create thicker, fuller hair but will also help to remove follicle blocking oils.
- Condition 5 minutes per day. A quality conditioner will help to maintain moisture in your hair, preventing splitting and breakage. Bosley Volumizing conditioner builds strength and makes hair shiny without weighing it down.
- Consider a Bosley LaserComb®. The Bosley LaserComb® received clearance from the FDA in February, 2007 as the only medical device to promote hair growth. This medical device delivers laser energy to the hair follicle causing revitalization and a general strengthening of the hair. The Bosley LaserComb® may increase blood flow and circulation to the scalp, which promotes healthy hair growth by way of nutrient delivery and disposal of waste products.
The Bosley LaserComb® can be very effective when used after a Bosley permanent hair restoration procedure. Talk with your Bosley Physician about a complete and permanent hair restoration solution and treatment plan.

Keeping it Fun in Riverside During a Rough Economy

If you’ve been keeping up on your current events in the news then it’s likely you’re watching news related to the imminent Presidential Election, the ups and downs of the stock market, stories on bailouts and home foreclosures – pretty intense stuff. Not only is it intense, but a great deal of it can be negative and uncouth (for example, campaign advertising). Many families are watching news channels and following these stories closely. Every one of us is greatly impacted by the unfolding of these events. Often, our kids are watching and overhearing these televised conversations that can be unsuitable for little ears. Even when we think our kids aren’t listening, they come up with something later on that lets you know they were and we need to do some ‘splaining, Lucy.
My seven year old has a greater grasp of the world around her than I did at her age. It seems like kids even that young are talking about the economy and recognizing gas prices, even speaking confidently about their pick for president. While there are so many great lessons kids can learn from these current events, we need to make sure we keep the negativity and tension out of it. Kids pick up on this, and I have to admit, it doesn’t feel good as a parent to have kids worrying about what I feel like are “adult issues.” Our children need reassurance during difficult times. They want to feel safe and secure.
Kids pick up on our anxiety and tension. They also look to us as role models and are master mimics. If you’ve witnessed your child say or do something that looks way too familiar, you know what I mean. Sometimes it’ll make you proud, other times it serves as the most effective reality check around. As a parent, it’s my job to set a good example. Furthermore, I need to maintain a positive attitude and upbeat. This will give them the stability and safety they crave. Staying connected is most important. Talk together, spend time together. Keep subject matter at your children’s level. Taking advantage of teachable moments is a great way to discuss subjects in a more informational way and can help keep strong opinions or biases (adult content) out of the equation. For more ways to help children through unsettling times, read suggestions here.
Having open and positive communication and spending family time together will give your children the reassurance they need during crises. We’re always looking for fun things to do for the kids. Something upbeat where the whole family can play and get our minds off of the seriousness of day to day life. John’s Incredible Pizza Co. is a great way to do that. From easy buffet style dining to games and rides to suit a variety of ages, everyone is bound to leave their worries at the door and have a day filled with fun and good times. And in the spirit of saving money and getting free stuff, check out the John’s Rewards section of their website here.
Here’s what you get and why we and our friends like it so much:
* You’re not going to run out of space or things to do here. John’s is easily the largest indoor fun place for kids anywhere.
* Yes, these are real indoor rides for kids, like the twister that spins you around at what feels like several hundred miles per hour and the coolest bumper car setup we’ve seen.
* Fun and interactive video and other games
* Multiple dining rooms each with their own theme. Themes range from sports to cartoons and each is easily the size of a restaurant.
* The reason for multiple dining rooms would be the all-you-can-eat-buffet. The buffet ties the rides for our favorite part of John’s. Simply said they have more pizza flavors than you can imagine, tons of pasta variations and a fantastic salad bar for those seeking something a little lighter. Of course if you dine on the salad bar you’ll have room for the all-you-can-eat dessert section.

With the start of Autumn comes the whirlwind of nonstop holiday-related events. The stores have their Halloween displays with candy and decorations galore. If your kids haven’t picked out their Halloween costumes yet, you can take them to the nearest party store, specialty store or Target and Walmart stores to let them choose their favorite character. Since we’re studying Ancient Egypt right now, my oldest has decided she’s going to dress up as Cleopatra this year. She’s already made her own jewelry as a related art activity. My littlest one is too young to really choose her own costume. However, she loves the Teletubbies (and she kind of looks like one!) so perhaps she will be Po or Laa-Laa this year. Otherwise, she’ll reuse her sister’s Pegasus costume that’s hiding out in the garage somewhere. Baby resale stores also have baby, toddler and kids’ Halloween costumes in great gently used condition. Don’t forget to check them out. Most kids only wear their costumes a couple of times anyway. Although, saving them in a dress-up trunk for later pretend play is a great way to get extra mileage out of those costumes.
Halloween is a fun holiday for kids and adults alike. I have always loved Halloween. Haunted houses, costumes, Halloween parties, carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating were always things I looked forward to and enjoyed. With my kids, I enjoy planning and attending a variety of Halloween playdates and parties, making Halloween crafts and decorations, going to the pumpkin patch and carving or decorating our Jack-o-lantern’s with paints, stickers and whatever other crafty materials you can think of. And it wouldn’t truly be Halloween for me without making a trip to Disneyland to see Jack Skellington’s Haunted Mansion from The Nightmare Before. Remember, that attraction stays until the New Year, so you have a few months to catch it.
Preschools and elementary schools, Mom’s groups, and playgroups love planning Halloween parties for their kids. We’ve always attended a couple of these each year, in addition to our usual Halloween day and evening routine. If you’re coordinating these events or helping someone plan a party, you’re going to need a venue that works for everyone. Small group playdates can be fun at your community parks or at one of the family’s homes. Larger groups, particularly school and daycare groups, would need more space. In the past, we’ve been to these types of gatherings at Chuck E. Cheese or John’s Incredible Pizza Co. These locations are indoors, so you don’t have to worry about what the weather will bring. Furthermore, you can keep better track of the kids in a venue like this and the adults will have just as much fun as the kids. Another plus - you don’t have to worry about pre-party set-up or the clean-up afterwards.
Our family especially loves John’s Pizza. We head there for birthdays or just for fun things to do days. John’s has everything we need, and has everything your group will need, too. There’s a variety of food to choose from, so even the pickiest eaters will find something they enjoy. And those wanting lighter fare can enjoy their well-stocked fresh salad bar. The food is all you can eat, as are drinks (excluding beer and wine). The Fun World room has tons of video games, rides, even indoor attractions like bumper cars, the express roller coaster, and bowling. Your group can reserve a special party room, if you like. One year, we attended a field trip with our Mommy and Me group where the kids got a tour of the kitchen and made their own pizzas. Check the website for party planning information.
Even if you’re a smaller group and don’t need a party room, there are so many rooms on the food side that your group will have plenty of space to get together. You can bring crafts and other activities for the kids, treats, and maybe even have your own Halloween costume contest. I was just looking through my Oriental Trading Co. catalog and found tons of cute treat bag and craft stuff, not to mention costume contest medals and trophies! Don’t forget to bring your camera, it’s going to be a SPOOKTACULAR time!

Search engine placement has changed drastically since our case study with Google in 2004. The problem with the vast majority of marketing is that it is not only too expensive but it also doesn't work. Our methods are radically different, an avant-garde approach that not only brings business to our vendors but also eliminates the confusion of on-line search results.
