Traditionally when school is out for the holidays many people are searching for group party places and venues where everybody can have fun and celebrate. It’s a time when parents and kids are looking for fun things to do, particularly during the two-week Christmas break.

Indoor Fun For Kids in Buena Park, CA
The recent fires in Southern California have changed the way we plan events for our kids during the school week and weekend. The reality is that the air quality was and still is so poor that it is not safe to have them outside for extended periods of time. It has gotten so bad on some days that we won’t even take a 15 minute walk with the dog. Instead, we’ll just stay at home and let the air conditioning filter clean the air as best it can.
The problem with this strategy to keep the kids healthy is that they get bored very quickly. Our kids love to be outside doing physical activities and very quickly acquire cabin fever when locked up in the house.
There are few options when it comes to other indoor activities. One of the obvious choices is to see a movie, which we rarely do. I think we’ve gone once in the past 2 years, mainly because the cost is so high relative to the time you kill (only a couple of hours). You can easily spend $60-70 for a family of four by the time you buy food and drinks. It’s just not worth it to us.
The best choice and one we just did this past weekend is to visit John’s Incredible Pizza Company. John’s in basically an indoor amusement park (clean air) with an all-you-can-eat food bar. The food bar includes pasta, salads, numerous types of pizza and a fantastic dessert bar. They even offer alcohol but there is a 2 drink max, with beer and wine offered.
Here’s what we love about John’s:
* You’re not going to run out of space or things to do here. John’s is easily the largest indoor fun place for kids anywhere.
* Yes, these are real indoor rides for kids, like the twister that spins you around at what feels like several hundred miles per hour and the coolest bumper car setup we’ve seen.
* Fun and interactive video and other games
* Multiple dining rooms each with their own theme. Themes range from sports to cartoons and each is easily the size of a restaurant.
* The reason for multiple dining rooms would be the all-you-can-eat-buffet. The buffet ties the rides for our favorite part of John’s. Simply said they have more pizza flavors than you can imagine, tons of pasta variations and a fantastic salad bar for those seeking something a little lighter. Of course if you dine on the salad bar you’ll have room for the all-you-can-eat dessert section.
With the fires still raging and more to come as the Santa Ana winds arrive, plan on a great indoor fun place like John’s Incredible Pizza!

Summer is my favorite season. Yes, it’s hot, but we get all of those extra daylight hours. Perfect for late afternoon dips in the swimming pool and evening walks with the dog. I remember being excited about school starting again in the fall, but wishing summer could last just a bit longer.
Many kids these days are going back to school already at the beginning of August. As a parent, I feel like summer just started. When I was shopping today I was not prepared for the huge Back-to-School section with all the supplies you’ll ever need, many of them on sale. While you’re there, be sure to see if they have a grade-appropriate checklist available to make your purchase selection easier. Another idea is to make Back-to-School goodie bags for your child’s late summer birthday party (at John’s Pizza of course). A friend of ours filled pencil boxes with school supplies one year and the kids all loved it.
Fortunately, there is a chance for one last hurrah in summer fun department. Even though school starts at the beginning of August for many, kids and parents can look forward to a long holiday weekend that Labor Day brings. This helps ease the transition and gives the kids something to look forward to during their first week at school. Particularly if your child has some apprehension (first day jitters) or difficulty adjusting to the new routine, providing her or him with a fun-filled holiday weekend may be just the thing to keep them going.
For many families, going out on vacation over Labor Day weekend isn’t an option. Gas prices are still high and with the economy faltering most folks are looking for ways to save money, not spend it hand over fist. Besides, if you’re anything like me, the thought of driving in traffic on the freeways and fighting crowds is not my idea of fun family time. We prefer to say close to home and find something the whole family will enjoy.
Sometimes we need to find fun things to do with the kids indoors. Somewhere that is air-conditioned and conveniently has everything we need in one place. The whole family has a great time at John’s Incredible Pizza Co. complete with their all you can eat buffet, wine and beer for adults (2 drink limit), special themed dining rooms, and a huge game and rides room. John’s Fun World side has the feeling of an indoor amusement park.
The all-you-can-eat buffet includes pizza, pasta, salad and even a dessert bar with lots of goodies like soft-serve ice cream. Be sure to try one of their unique pizzas….you will be glad you did.
The themed rooms are really cool and provide an atmosphere for any mood from cartoons to the more laid back cabin fever theme. Each room is the size of a standard restaurant.
