This Summer in Southern California we’ve already had our share of 100+ degree days. In fact, this week the forecast is for even more heat with temperatures approaching 105 degrees or higher.
To make matters more difficult humidity has dropped significantly, which fans the flames of the 300+ fires currently burning in California (as of July 7, 2008). These fires are primarily in the Northern part of the state but given it’s fire season the risk of fires in Southern California is extremely high.
I’ve lived in California for 15 years and every year I’ve been affected by the fires in some way. Typically it’s the air quality that drops to unhealthful. It’s not safe for you but it’s really bad for kids. During these times it’s best to keep the kids indoors and run the air conditioning to help filter the air.
Keeping the kids couped up in the house is definitely in their best interest when the air quality is poor but at some point cabin fever will set in and they’ll want to get out for some activities. There are definitely options for kids indoor activities, just try to keep it somewhat close so you don’t have to deal with the heat in transit or the high gas prices to get to your destination.
Although Victoria Gardens mall in Rancho Cucamonga is an outdoor facility they feature some great indoor places for the kids that will work on hot days.
The Cultural Center at Victoria gardens houses a fantastic library where you can sit, relax and fill up your kids Summer reading lists. We’ve stopped in often on hot days to cool down and catch up on our reading. The Cultural Center also features the Lewis Family Playhouse where multiple shows play every week. Be sure to check out their calendar, it’s a nice departure from the standard Summer movie and the kids will love it.
If your kids are really into the outdoors i.e. camping, biking, fishing, boating, hiking etc., they’ll love a visit to Bass Pro Shops. Think of Bass Pro as Disneyland for the outdoor enthusiast. You can easily spend 3 hours in this place, more if you decide to eat at their restaurant, which is fantastic. They feature picturesque scenes in nature with animals carefully placed. The environment makes you feel like you’re in the wilderness but this wilderness has some pretty good deals.
When we went here for the first time, we thought the prices would be high but they weren’t. In fact, they were cheaper than the discount stores we’ve been to in Rancho Cucamonga. The environment is so neat it creates the perception that everything will be expensive, but it’s not. Bass Pro is definitely worth a look.
On the other side of Victoria Gardens mall is one of our favorite places to take the kids, Color Me Mine. Color Me Mine is a studio where kids (and adults) can have some relaxing time by painting ready-made ceramics. They have hundreds of choices from platters to animals and mugs so there’s something for everyone. A couple of hours for this activity is standard but it goes by fast because you’re so relaxed.
Color Me Mine is a nice departure from standard kids activities that are typically pretty wild and don’t have any emphasis on art. The other part we really like about painting ceramics is you and your kids have something of substance when you’re done unlike other activities where you spend lots of money then that’s it, nothing left but the memory until the next big event.
Color Me Mine also has alternatives to expensive kids Summer camps in Rancho Cucamonga. They have kids Summer workshops that are themed and done by age group. Here’s this Summer’s current availability:

Search engine placement has changed drastically since our case study with Google in 2004. The problem with the vast majority of marketing is that it is not only too expensive but it also doesn't work. Alpha Six's methods are radically different, an avant-garde approach that not only brings business to our vendors but also eliminates the confusion of on-line search results.
